Keeping staff motivated – part 1

Staffing your company's exhibition stand at a show is hard work. Keeping your team motivated can often be a real challenge, especially at the end of a day or during the final hours of the show when traffic is slow (a prime time for serious buyers to swoop.) Here are a few tips to energise the troops:

Select people who want to be there. The key ingredient for anyone to be motivated to work an exhibition stand is simple: They need to want to be there. All too often employees are told by management to just show up to work a particular show. Given a choice, they would often prefer to stay home.

Get top management support. When top management supports the company's tradeshow activities and demonstrates that support by attending the show, helping in the booth, and taking part in training programs and pre-show and post-show activities, their enthusiasm is contagious.
