In November we had the pleasure of hosting the annual Starting off training awards ceremony at our brand new showroom based in Wellingborough. Starting Off is a fantastic scheme which finds employment and training opportunities for young people.
I have been working at Nimlok for over five years and have been part of the Starting Off scheme since 2008. Nimlok are keen advocates of supporting training of young people and have nurtured over 6 employees through work based learning.
The event which was hosted on 25th November saw over 100 attendees at the Nimlok head office and our showroom was the perfect setting for such a ceremony.
I had the pleasure of also receiving an award (my second NVQ for Business and Administration level three) from the guest presenter of the day, Paralympian David Holding. David talked of his past as a medal winning Paralympics racer and how he had also started a course with Starting off after retirement. It was amazing to hear that he had won many medals for racing, marathons, 100m and 250m.
It was a great day for all and the Evening Telegraph even attended the event and put an article in their next issue about the proud apprentice’s of 2011 collecting their awards.
It’s a great achievement to the apprentice’s that attended the event and collected their awards. David in particular was a fantastic influence on the day and spurred many of us to consider going on to achieve our next NVQ.
It was an honour for Nimlok to be involved in such a prestigious event and I am looking forward to continuing to apply the skills I have learnt through Starting off here at Nimlok.
