DSG Digital graphics

Modern large format printers can produce superb results for the exhibition environment however there are one or two weak points in their armour...

1) Moisture. Their output, even when laminated is not moisture proof so in the event you wish to use your display outdoors or even in a Marquee, it is not recommended.

2) Damage. The multiple layers of the graphic are prone to edge damage, causing delamination locally and eventually or large areas.

3) Fading. The best inks for image quality are not light stable. This is fine for exhibitions and events held indoors but a major problem at outdoor venues. A good use for a small display is to set it up in your reception when it is not at a venue but if this has large glas areas fading of the image can occur quite rapidly in strong sunlight.

4) Speed. The printing and laminating and finishing process can be slow, making multiple production runs an expensive and laborious process.

5) Wastage: Upto 20% of a "normal" exhibition graphics material may be wasted as it is printed on oversize materials and trimmed down to the finished size.

DSG was developed to overcome these issues. "DSG" stands for "Direct to Substrate Graphic" and is a process of using inks dried instantaneously by ultra violet light on the printer. This provides an image hard enough for no overlamination to be required. In addition the equipment is capable of printing materials upto 50mm? thick so no lamination is required to the rear to thicken up the graphic to remain rigid.

Other advantages include a print accuracy so high that materials arrive in their raw state at the finished size and the printer prints them edge to edge, reducing waste.

This investment of thousands of man hours and 500,000 Euros ensures Nimlok is at the cutting edge of print technology for its customers benefit. Projects that were formally out of reach in terms of volume and/or speed can now be completed to meet the clients needs.

DSG 1) The ink is set on the printer and highly resistant to chemical attack let alone moisture.

DSG 2) There are no laminations, just a one piece graphic so no delamination issues

DSG 3) The inks are set by ultra violet light- the same light that fades "normal" inks so resistance is very high.

DSG 4) Industrial scale printing means a volume 3 to 10 times faster than "traditional" methods.

DSG 5) Material wastage is reduced by upto 20% due to accuracy of print.

Environmental consideration rating: High

No solvents are used in the process which require specialist filtering or disposal. Material wastage is reduced by upto 20% due to accuracy of print.
