Nimlok is the first exhibition company in the world to attain the International Environmental Standard of ISO 14001. Reusability and sustainability is at the core of Nimlok's products, history and culture, from our founding in 1970.
Testament to the reusability of Nimlok products is the very large quantity of Nimlok equipment still in daily use after more than a quarter of a century. Even at the end of their long "useful life" Nimlok exhibition and display systems continue to be environmentally sound as they are manufactured using 80% recyclable material.
From the outset Nimlok has offered to properly dispose of any exhibition and display equipment no longer wanted by our clients as part of the original purchase contract. This is now known by more fashionable terms such as "Source responsibility" but has always been part of our philosophy—and will continue to be.
Nimlok is part of the P3 Group, the world’s largest supplier of modular and reusable display and exhibition stands, yet remains a family business. Great people and a strong culture are foremost contributors to our success and we highly value the ethical and long-term perspective. This perspective includes the desire to make Environmental considerations central to the way we do business in the 21st century.
Nimlok aims to lead the exhibition industry to a more sustainable and responsible future. To this end, we are absolutely delighted to be the first (and, so far, only) company in the exhibition industry to gain registration to ISO14001. Recognized in 130 countries, ISO 14001 is rapidly becoming the internationally accepted Environmental Standard. ISO14001 is an environmental management system designed to rigorously drive improvement in an organization's environment impact.
In early 2007 Nimlok chose ISO14001 as the best way to monitor, manage and encourage environmentally positive change within the company. Since then an enormous amount of hard work has been carried out by Nimlok's Environmental Team to instigate the measures that prove the viability of the Nimlok system for 140001 certification- and the further positive improvements that will occur. It was therefore a huge thrill to recently be presented with the formal certification by BSI.
Andrew Morris, from BSI commented; 'Nimlok has had a commendable focus on the environment for many years, and certification to ISO 14001 publicly demonstrates that commitment. The road to certification involves a lot of hard work for the staff at Nimlok and they should be very proud of their achievement'.
Nimlok set specific and measurable environmental objectives each year that complement our environmental policy. To view 2010 objectives please click here.
BS8901 is the British Standard which has been developed specifically for the exhibition and events industry to help the industry operate in a more sustainable manner. In order to obtain this British Standard Nimlok had to demonstrate that we were able to identify and understand the effects that our activities have on the environment, on society and on the economy both within the organisation and the wider economy; and put measures in place to minimise any negative effects. This ensures a balanced approach to our economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress relating to events.

Recyclability - Nimlok operates a recycle program for all paper, cardboard, and aluminium so that the unavoidable waste from administration and production are recycled. Its marketing strategy has deliberately moved away from paper-based campaigns where possible and has demonstrated a reduction of 50% in printed matter over the last two years. Reduction of Harmful compounds in graphic production - Nimlok's leading edge graphics production facility has avoided the use of solvent based printing processes and invested heavily in methods with much lower environmental impact.
WEEE Compliance (for the safe disposal of lighting and electronic equipment) - As a supplier of electrical and electronic equipment, Nimlok complies with the requirements of The European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive as below.
Producer responsibility - As is usual in a B2B supply chain, responsibility for safe disposal of electrical and electronic equipment is transferred to Nimlok's customers. However Nimlok commits to arranging for the safe disposal or recycling of any lights or electronic equipment supplied by Nimlok and returned to Nimlok by customers in a non-contaminated condition.
WEEE Marking - From November 2007, all products that are subject to the WEEE Directive supplied by Nimlok are compliant with the WEEE marking requirements. Such products are marked with the "crossed out wheelie bin" WEEE symbol shown right in accordance with European Standard EN 50419. This symbol indicates that these items require special. treatment.
