Nimlok fabric makes Technicolour Dream Coat

As part of Recycle Week, Northamptonshire County Council’s waste minimisation team worked with students from Northampton School for Girls to make a Technicolour Dream Coat with a difference.

The aim of the project was to show how material that was destined for landfill could be used creatively instead. Staff from the Council contacted local exhibition and event display solutions company, Nimlok, to ask if they could help. Nimlok have their own graphics production capability in house and they also use fabric to put onto some of their display solutions. They donated five rolls of brightly coloured waste materials to assist with the project and were delighted with the end results!

The girl students were split into teams and given a box of recycled materials in which they had to create a Technicolour Dream Coat from. They spent two days designing and creating their coats before they were put before the judges to determine the winning design.

Craig Chalmers - Any Dream Will Do finalist - is currently starring in the lead role of the touring production of Joseph and his amazing Technicolour Dream Coat, and it just so happens that it is based at the Derngate theatre in Northampton this week. The winning design was announced yesterday and modelled by Craig Chalmers at the school. He commented; "It's a very original idea and I am very impressed with the coats. It is nice to see that Joseph can be the idea behind such an inventive project and also promotes the idea of recycling. It is as though the coats were made to measure, they have all done really well with their designs".

The Council have awarded the winning team of students with tickets to go and see Mr Chalmers star as Joseph at The Derngate on Thursday evening.
